“When the sentences and the story are flowing, writing is better than any drug. It doesn’t just make you feel good about yourself. It makes you feel good about everything.”
My new tote bag came!! It’s so cute! And giant! It’ll make carrying things to school so much easier. So excited to put it to use tomorrow~
(You can’t see the handles because my coffee table is black and so are the handles oops. The black and white polka dots are my carpet though. And there are my toes. Oops to that too.)
IT IS SO CUTE AND PERFECT DID I SAY THAT ALREADY??
Hello, writerly friend~ ♥︎
I see what you mean. Well, you are certainly right about those two points! That is exactly what I would have told you~ c;
So, now that we are pretty much on the same page. Let’s actually talk about something you said— because it raises a VERY good point!
"But I still can’t help sometimes feeling like a small spark next to a bright sun."
Do you think these writers your look up to look at their own work and think that they are ‘suns’?
Nope. To put it bluntly, every writer thinks that they are the worst writer ever. Seriously. Click on that link and read that post. It’s one of my favorites.
Every single writer who does this out of love will admit that they can always get better, because writing is a craft in which nobody becomes a master. Every single writer who does this out of love will admit that their work is inferior to that of the people who inspired them (and those people would admit the same).
We all have people who inspire us, and we put their work on a pedestal. This is not bad, because (again) we are all artisans of a craft where nobody becomes a master.
Sure… it’s humbling to see your work as sparks against suns, but remember I need you to remember something, okay? I hope you are sitting down, because I am going to hit you very hard on the head.
Someday, someone will look at your work and feel the same way you feel right now.
They will look at your writing, and consider it to be ‘suns’ compared to their ‘sparks.’ And this is good— because we are all looking for people to inspire us, people we want to be like, people who fill us with hope.
I just hope you are ready, because that will happen someday.
I want you to remember that what you are feeling is normal. Every writer feels that way. I know that I will never be as clever as Lemony Snicket, or as funny as Terry Pratchet— but I sure the hell am not going to give up, because (someday) someone is going to need my work to inspire them.
And I will inspire them, so that they can inspire others.
I hope this helps, writerly friend! If you, or anyone else, have any more questions, please feel free to send them my way!
Keep writing, and keep inspiring others~ ♥︎
Okay I’m too tired tonight from work to write but Lory’s anons are wtf to the max and I owe her sexy times. Who can I commission to draw Sherstrade or Salsherstrade sexy times? Like really smutty. Who does these things. I need this artist.
Dreig I think I found a new ship for us to talk about.
(Don’t know any artists though, sorry. Maybe Izaya?)
SO I have never seen Supernatural before and I was browsing the channels today looking for something to watch and Bones starts in like one minute so I went there and it was the tail end of a Supernatural episode AND I DID NOT EXPECT DEAN TO SOUND LIKE THAT OMG. NEITHER OF THEIR VOICES WERE WHAT I EXPECTED.
Now I’m honestly afraid to watch that series because I’d cringe every time they opened their mouths. (DEAN YOU SOUND SO OLD NOOOO).
Yet another reason to not get sucked into that show.
(Apologies to any Supernatural fans I may have inadvertently offended. I do not do scary things. I shall stick with my crime shows.)

“He tolerates flight?” Mycroft inquired.
“Oddly, yes.” Anthea shivered.
“Have him here tomorrow, then,” he said, pushing John Watson’s file back towards her.
“You haven’t even heard about the third person,” she protested.
“I don’t need to.” Mycroft looked at her, and this was the Prime speaking, not the person. “I have made my decision. You will start his training. Introduce him to the T4/T5 teams. Do what you need to do, Anthea.”

Another chapter of The Tower will be going up when I get home from work~
“Fear is felt by writers at every level. Anxiety accompanies the first word they put on paper and the last.”
