tempestwakener:

My friend jahnyanovak asked me to rec her a few Sherstrade fics, and I’m afraid I went a little bit overboard. What can I say? I ship all kinds of pairings from Sherlock, but my favorites have to be (in order) Sherstrade, Mystrade, Johnlock, Johnstrade, and the occasional (if they’re well written) johnlockstrade. Those aren’t the only pairings I’ll read, as I’m definitely swayed by things with well written tenderness, but they’re the ones I frequent most often.

All of these Sherstrade recs are from AO3, as it’s been a while since I’ve roamed my fanfiction.net archive, and trying to search livejournal gives me fits XP

This one is by one of my favorite writers on AO3. She mostly does Mycroft, Lestrade, or Mystrade, (And her take on Mycroft is a thing of absolute beauty) but this is her first attempt at Sherstrade. Her character introspectives are absolutely wonderful, and she has a beautiful writing style. If you ever get bored, you should check her out :) http://archiveofourown.org/works/1337119

http://archiveofourown.org/works/1125946 This is a romantic little oneshot

http://archiveofourown.org/works/1149755 This story starts out as friendship/comfort but has a part two with some nice little smut :D

http://archiveofourown.org/works/263121/chapters/412662 This particular story is the first in a lovely long series about Sherlock and Lestrade meeting, coming together, growing around one another, all the way up until Sherlock’s “Death”. It’s one of the only really long Sherstrade stories I’ve found that has a pretty good story to go with this particular pairing.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/551155 Easily one of my favorite johnlockstrade stories, as it’s humorous and well written.

These have absolutely nothing to do with Sherstrade, but it is so horrifyingly difficult to find crossovers that Greg has a decent role in, that I figured I’d share the few I have found, just in case you’re interested.

These next two stories also have nothing to do with Sherstrade, but as you also appreciate the character of Father Francis Mulcahy, I thought I’d suggest these as well.

Well Jahnyanovak, I hope you find one or more of these entertaining!

If anyone idly reading this happens to have any good Sherstrade recs, feel free to throw them my way! I’m always looking for more to add to my collection ^_^

-strangled noises- OMG SOMEONE RECCED ONE OF MY SHERSTRADE FICS ;~;

AND IT’S MY BALLETLOCK ONE

I have such a soft spot for that fic.

A Study in Flirting (x)

dreigwrites:

Chapter 3 of the crack that me and iolre are writing.

This is the Sherstrade chapter, there’s also a Johncroft section in the same series.

Summary: When Sherlock’s flirting skills nearly cost him a witness, Mycroft’s pointed teasing prompts a contest between the brothers. Who can seduce their target first?

How to Seduce John Watson (x)

Chapter 3 of the crack that me and dreigwrites are writing.

This is the Johncroft chapter, there’s also a Sherstrade section in the same series.

Summary: When Sherlock’s flirting skills nearly cost him a witness, Mycroft’s pointed teasing prompts a contest between the brothers. Who can seduce their target first?

Sherlock coming back after the fall, scared that John is going to hate him and punish Sherlock for breaking him. Instead he fucks him so slowly and so sweetly, kissing every inch of Sherlock's body, naming everything he loves about him. And by the time Sherlock comes he's crying.

So I’m writing a thing for this. Oops.

The Doll House - Chapter 4 (x)

Written for the lovely baynecroft! This just keeps getting darker and darker. Please please please check the tags, since this is a serial killer AU and it’s rather graphic. I’m guessing we’ve got about 5 to 7 more chapters left.

Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade isn’t who he seems. Devoted father to his daughter, cheerful to his cheating ex-wife - and a serial killer that has gone undetected for over twenty years. Until he meets Mycroft Holmes, who seems more fascinated than appalled and ends up drawn into the ever-increasing web of Greg’s deceptions.

On overthinking. (x)

Mars, this is so utterly Not Just You I can’t even tell you. I’m about to drop this on my blog and you’re likely to see a good 50 reblogs from other authors going “GPO FUCKING YYYYYYY.”

Gaining the…

It’s the whole inner-critic thing that makes it nearly impossible for me to look back at some of the stuff I wrote a year ago because I can see the flaws now because I’ve basically trained myself to look for them. I can’t ignore them. It makes reading things that I loved a year ago impossible.

Then there’s the fics where you edit them six hundred times and no matter what you’re still not happy with them and then you throw them up anyway because you spent hours on it damnit. It’s worse (like the original person said) when the fics get more complicated because there’s just so much going on and you worry about fucking it up and it gets more stressful.

I try to focus less on my opinion and more on what others have said about it, once it’s up, because I’ve kind of discovered that I will always be harsher on myself than everyone else will be. I know I have room for improvement and I highlight the areas I want to work on and keep trying to improve, but I try not to beat myself up too much about it? I think about the fics I’ve read where no, the grammar wasn’t that great, or there was an error or two, or several, but it just worked and I loved it. I try to focus on the fact that most people don’t read just to point out errors, they read to love what you’ve written, and they won’t freak just because you left out a word or forgot a period or something.

A Missing Piece - Chapter 4

Soulmate AU Mystrade, written for the lovely rykoe-little-black-book!

A Missing Piece - Chapter 4

Mycroft is the man who thinks he has everything. His perfect job. His perfect home. Even a little brother (although he certainly ranks among the most annoying). Despite other people and their fascination with finding their soulmates, Mycroft has abandoned any idea of finding his ‘Second’, not after the traumatic death of the first person that was supposed to love him. And then Detective Inspector Gregory Lestrade walks into his little brother’s life, and Mycroft finds himself unnecessarily fascinated..

So I just kind of want to address this mentality I’ve seen floating around my dashboard lately. That somehow, fanartists (fanart and fanfic included) ‘owe’ the people that are consuming their art/writing. That we are obligated to do everything perfect and update on time because it’s what consumers want. Or that if we hiatus for whatever reason, we need to come back because we ‘owe’ people. I’ve also seen this idea that by editing what you’ve written or cleaning up what you’ve drawn, you’re going ‘above and beyond’.

Simply by writing or drawing the thing, we are going above and beyond what we HAVE to do. Fanartists do not owe their consumers anything*. We don’t have to write or draw the thing. We do it because we love to and share it because we like making people happy. We don’t (or shouldn’t, rather) do it because we’re being pressured into updating.

I’d be the first to admit I’m not perfect. I don’t update super regularly. I’m also a full-time grad student with about six hundred obligations. Writing for fun is my hobby. Have I stayed up late and lost sleep to finish a prompt, or a chapter draft? Yeah. A lot. Have I cried and bit my nails and worried and felt guilty because I couldn’t update on time? Yeah. Probably more than I should. I’m human. Fanfic is not my full time job. Writing isn’t my full-time job.

I love my readers. They are, with very few exceptions, utterly lovely people. They don’t pressure me. They don’t make snarky comments. I love them and try my best to update when I can so that they can continue reading.

Don’t be one of those people that simply comments ‘More!!’. Or who comments ‘I want to like this, but I don’t think you’ll finish it.’ Be the one who tells the writer what you love about it and expresses enthusiasm to see more. The kind that we love and want to write for, not the kind that makes us resent all the effort we have put into this.

*With the exception of paid work where there is a contract established and it is weaselly to shirk your duties/etc. This is talking about free fanfic/fanart.

The Little Things Give You Away

This was a commission for the lovely mystradesexytimes! It’s written in the universe of ‘Strange Days’, an awesomely under-appreciated movie that everyone should go watch now.

The Little Things Give You Away

Mace never could have predicted how much things would change. Or how, in a way, nothing changed at all. Life continued, and although they were different, some things remained the same.

On AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1358425

You can commission me to write things! Details are here.
